The PS4 is a thing, now! Sony has pulled the trigger on their new console, officially ushering in the next generation of video games. What a wild ride last Wednesday night was, huh? There was a lot to keep track of between all the buzzwords and slides and trailers and blazers.

Fortunately, I spent the night frantically hitting the screenshot hotkey. Hit the jump and we’ll spend these next few moments together reliving the magic and spectacle of that evening through awkward freeze-frames and knee-jerk reactions! After you, I insist.

Quantic Dream’s Beyond reveal at Sony’s conference received an admirable round of applause, both before and after their announcement that Ellen Page had been hired and ping-pong-balled for a mo-capped, digital performance as the game’s lead character, but the video that followed left a lot of folks scratching their heads about what, exactly, this game would play like.

Hit the jump for the full gameplay video, as well as some inital thoughts!

Sony’s Youtube page has a playlist of all their E3 trailers, and it’s kind of amazing what was ignored in favor of, I don’t know, a prolonged tech demo of AR-coded “books” branded around a franchise with drastically overestimated drawing power. (I was watching with two rabid Harry potter fanatics, and even they started rolling their eyes almost immediately.)

Hit the jump to see which trailers Sony left in the lurch this year, all of which were far better candidates for stage/screen time over the embarrassment that was Wonderbooks.

I laughed my ass off when I saw this. For those of you who aren’t in the know, let me explain: Activision Blizzard are the same people who ran Guitar Hero into the ground, had their entire Call of Duty staff leave because they refused to pay them what they were due after making the most profitable video game of all time, and is run by the Devil, currently known on this plane of existence as Bobby Kotick, a man famous for saying “I’d like to take the fun out of making video games”. To name a few. Continue reading »
