JKP! Ep.247: Binders Full of Elves – Jump Kick Punch!

“What a great moment here at the Game Awards…”

It’s  time for JKP’s kinda-sorta-holiday episode, and Brandon, Liz and Josh have come up with new reasons for the seasons: Geoff Keighley’s annual Game Awards, new Hollywood best friends joining Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding, and the latest news from Sony’s PSX event (including a new Uncharted and more The Last of Us). Then, after the break, the trio warns against playing the apparently unfinished release of Final Fantasy XV and talk about cowboy robots in HBO’s Westworld. And, yes– a couple of listener emails!

Everything you guys said about Westworld! Yes. So good. Nice stealth reference to Adaptation, Brandon! I’m happy I wasn’t the only one to think of WW as a video game. A pretty lady drops a can of beans? Look out! If you pick that up, you’ll be locked in to a boring low-level quest. I hope Rockstar is sending HBO a cake or something, because Westworld is the best marketing Red Dead Redemption 2 could have wished for. Also, Jeffrey Wright! Yes! I’ve been a big fan of his ever since the HBO adaptation of Angels in America and I’m so glad he’s been doing more movie and tv stuff since then. So good.

  2. Your talk of Nostalgia about games made me think about this analysis: https://youtu.be/rHhX5GtWNr8?list=PLc38fcMFcV_s7Lf6xbeRfWYRt7-Vmi_X9

The Game Makers Toolkit in general is good but I think he explains how to make nostalgia work well.

    • Great video! Punctuates a lot of stray thoughts I’ve had about SK for the last couple of years.

Love that series but I’ve only ever caught them sporadically. Definitely need to catch up on the rest, so thanks for linking!
