“I got, like, two cylinders. Can you believe it??”

JKP begins its sixth year of podcasting in suitable fashion with Josh whipping out his “complaint jugs” to educate Brandon, Eric, Tom and Harrison on The Legend of Korra’s finale, network censorship and the unavoidable entertainment apocalypse. Then, after the break, enjoy some extremely rare JKP car talk, get Tom’s report on how the Smite World Championship went and learn which games the gang has been playing lately. Oh, and listener emails!

Hit the jump for this week’s references, trailers, videos and nonsense!

  1. That t-shirt would look awesome in black!

  2. Dave (not Coulier) Jan 14, 2015

I’m so glad you guys enjoy your shirts! If you would want more of them, we have the film positives on file, ready for whenever you want. If you should choose to use this design for merchandise, the Illustrator files are available to you to use at local printer, as that might lower your cost of production and shipping. Merry Merry!

  3. Also… is this podcast so good… that… that no one should ever make podcasts again?

    • Nope.

      • Ok good. We have a chance. God forbid someone makes a great one, though. We’ll have to stop.

    • At least we have merch.

you’re probably right. to get a podcast this good again, you’d need 4 or five chuckle fucks working together, a battery if you will, cause it’s never just one or two working alone. even then, if the stars align, they’ll have to fight every step of the way to even get close to what they want to do. and they’ll probably get shat on for it too!

All podcasts are dead forever and ever, unless they incorporate more explicit audio to cater to this generation’s perverted expectations from their talk shows. What did those foley guys from the old radio dramas use to represent the sound of rotating beaded dildo? I think it was a balloon and dry beans in a milk jug.

I want a “Let’s Play” style video where Josh plays this game, and has to explain what he thinks he is doing to an onlooking Harrison.

    • I really, really, REALLY want to do this now. I already know what I’m going to say.

  5. Hey, if anyone is looking to learn about Smite, here is the Rock Paper Shotgun article I had mentioned: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/01/12/smite-world-championship-winners/

And here is a general primer/cheat sheet: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/01/09/smite-world-championships-information/

  6. According to Wikipedia and the Motorcycle museum George Wyman was the first to motorcycle across the US in 1903. “Wyman” seems an odd way to spell “Krix.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_A._Wyman

    Yay! Year 5!

To be honest Jokers Last Laugh (the captain clown episode) is actually a pretty solid episode, that episode in particular has an amazing score.

I don’t really have a horse in the Korra race, I watched season one and basically said “that was neat, the ending was horrible. I’ll wait for it to be complete to even continue” I loved Avatar and I can see the problem with Korra being less of a world-building show, but honestly I bet there are Avatars that didn’t do shit their entire life while being the omnipotent super being (that surfer water tribe dude) but that could be why they put so much emphasis on her personal growth as a character unlike Aang who does change but it sounds like a fraction of Korra’s change. Also Korra’s world is Aang’s world just later in the timeline.

Cable television is a shrinking market, I think our generation (30-something’s) will be the last hold over and that streaming services will continue their supremacy which I think is interesting because a decade ago if you said you don’t have cable TV you were either a pirate or some nut living in the woods.

The one thing that Harrison forgot to mention about the Detroit Auto Show is that Ford announced that the new F150 Raptor, the GT350 and the new GT40 will be in Forza 6, thereby announcing that there is a Forza 6. Also the GT40 is the cover car.

I watched some of the Smite finals online and I think it’s a pretty strong contender in the MOBA scene. I don’t really like playing those games, mainly because I don’t have the hours of commitment required to be competitive but I do enjoy watching the matches. I don’t think Starcraft 2 is as viable as it once was because it feels like the esports scene is more geared towards moba’s over the older guard of RTS games, also I never really liked the way they released SC2 and the tiered expansions. It feels like a real antiquated approach compared to modern games.

I meant to pick up Kentuky Route Zero in the sale but instead I got both Game of Thrones and Borderlands but haven’t had time to get into them either. I have a serious problem with too many games, not enough time.

The reason I bring it up in the email is that personally I think the scope of Starfox and SF64 is pretty small for a game today. Personally I think they might want to pull away from the rail shooter aspect and embrace for lack of a better term “open world combat”

Starfox 64 has a 4 person battle arena which had Arwing, Landmaster, and on foot combat. It’s pretty awesome for the time but if you look at the arena maps are really sparse open spaces that get old pretty quick.

  8. Brandon I just heard that Sonic was partially based on Bill Clinton and Michael Jackson please confirm.

I would love to see a stream of Josh and Harrison’s Mechanic simulator. A Highlights reel with smash cuts to Harrison slowly growing more and more frustrated would also be hilarious, but more work for Brandon so maybe nevermind. You guys gotta get a series of Character Creation Master workshops with Zack going too. Just chase him down and put him in front of a DA:I or something. Also another live show at some point? Seems like it’s been ages.

    • I can confirm that to be 100% true.

Also, on another live show: we have another milestone episode coming up in a couple of months. Stay tuned.

  9. hey brandon, i know you have thousands upon thousands of background tracks already, but if you ever needed more royalty free ones, i found this great site through one of my tech courses at school. i’m sure you may have stumbled across it already, but if not, here it is. http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/

also It may interest Harrison or Eric that during the past summers part time gig at a historical museum, i got to drive a 1938 Harley Davidson motorcycle. It was the most terrifying experience of my life and i suggest everyone try at least once.

    • I’ve actually never heard of this site before-- thanks for the recommendation, Cody!

      • wait…you never heard of that site? every youtube person uses it. the tracks are not bad, but at this moment, some are really overused. I also have a site with free music, but cant remember it… will send later=)

Mystery package enroute to JKP global headquarters.

  11. Top Gear Punch: 30-60 minutes of Harrison and Eric talking about cars.

    • Loess Jan 20, 2015

Harrison should get to talk cars more often.

    • Dave (not Coulier) Jan 21, 2015

    • ericodinson Jan 21, 2015
