JKP Presents: Adventures at New York Comic-Con w/ Ricky & Friends! (PART2)

November 3, 2012

It’s your old pal Ricky and I’m biggity biggity back ya’ll!

I wanted to upload my NY Comic-Con Day 2 stuff sooner, but we’ve sorta been diverting our attention towards the “inclimate weather” here on the upper east coast. But you didn’t come here for that stuff did you? Noooo…you want to see stuff involving video games, comics, toys and hot nerds  in sweet costumes right? Well hit the jump and HOLLA AT YER BOI! I mean…if you want to…

A true king does not exempt himself from public transit.

At this point you’ve all heard about the BIG stuff to come out of NYCC from most major media outlets. The Agent Colesens, the Pacific Rims etc etc. So I won’t bother repeating that stuff verbatim. But I will show you more stuff made out of Legos and Megablocks!

Hey Thom….

My plan from the get-go for today was to check out the games on the show floor. In particular this Wii-U business that Nintendo is all hopped up about. I was joined by New York local, fellow former SCAD student, Titmouse animation employee and all around ton of fun Brett Muller.

Brett: What’s this then?

Platinum Games is one of my favorite developers right now, so I had been really interested in The Wonderful 101. If you missed the JKP crew’s previous mention of it, its essentially what would happen if you mashed Pikmin and a Green Lantern comic together conceptually and made a game out of it. I sadly didn’t get a chance to play but I did get some quick cam footage of someone fiddling with it.

Over at the Warner Bros. section they had a few things on display (toys and the like) but my attention went directly to the corner they reserved for Netherealms Studio and their demo of Injustice: Gods Among Us. For those not familiar, this is a game from the creators of Mortal Kombat featuring DC characters…and NO ONE ELSE (less we forget MK vs. DCU). This was the first time the were showing off Green Arrow so I had to get in on that action. The guy instructing me was a hoot. You can’t hear it that well in the video below, but after Brett and I commented on Green Arrow’s coincidental appearance in the game happeing the same time as his new CW show, the guy responds…

“…Yeah. It’s almost like we had a conversation with DC or something.”

A fight to the death between wise-ass quiver guy and smooth afro terminator.

Over on the other side there was…

I…I just can’t.

I heard some loud music and cheering coming the distance, so I assumed that meant Harmonix was there with Dance Central 3. Which I’m not ashamed to admit I was stoked for. Sadly…it when I ran over there it turned out to be Ubisoft showing off Just Dance 4 :(.

BUT, I wasn’t completely disappointed. Because after one group was done dancing…THIS HAPPENED…

On another end of the motion gaming spectrum, Marvel was showing off Avengers: Battle For Earth.

I have no idea what is happening here…

After a quick bite to eat we scowered the floor for more interesting sites.

Looks like Master Roshi is doing some sight seeing himself…ZING!

Actually speaking of Dragonball, here’s a thing:

This is officially license DBZ incense….

And this is me getting a good long whiff of Trunks. If I remember correctly…he had a mild hint of lavender.

For anyone who remembers the  recent mentions of 3D printing and Makerbots on the podcast, here’s one in action over at the Nerdist booth.

“O_O…..I want that one mommy……”

“My name is Ram-Man…tell them my story!”

OK OK Wait…before you scroll down: Imagine Bane’s voice from the movie. Got it? OK! Now look at this pic and read this to yourself:

“Young lady, I believe it is time for you and I to go take a motorboat ride…UH-BUH-BUH-BUH-BUH-BUH…!”

“Linear corridors for 30 hours THEN the game opens up? Sorry frosty tips, I ain’t got that kind of time”

Not costumes per say,  but I liked the cut of their jib.

This was a silly costume contest over at the Marvel stage, moderated by a lady whose probably not that familiar with ALL of the companies IP’s. But she makes up for it at the very end when the winner is announced.

I’ll be back next week at some point with Day 3 and my adventures AWAY from the con. I leave you with the musical stylings of Hobo Fett.

I could not get my camera out fast enough for that guy!

Wonderful 101 still looking really fun. Grabby hands.

Also, I enjoy that Flavor Monster dancing video for reasons I’m pretty sure the anti-tobacco “TRUTH” folks weren’t intending.

Thanks for the great overage, Ricky!

It was great because this was completely unrelated to ANYTHING that TRUTH or Ubisoft were doing. The guys working the monster costume just felt like fucking around and Ubisoft let them come up.
