In what is a hands-down guarantee for E3 2012’s weirdest announcement, SEGA has announced that Godaddy spokes
modelperson and Maxim bikini personmodel Danica Patrick will be the official spokes bikiniperson for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, as well as a playable character in the game this Fall.
Hahaha what? Hit the jump for an interview, the newest trailer, and some other tidbits. (But seriously, what?)
SUMO Digital developer Steve Lycett responded to fan concerns, reassuring them that no SEGA characters were knocked out of the roster to make room for Danica, and that she should be considered more of a “bonus” guest character. This is pretty friggin’ weird, but it certainly shows that SEGA is attempting to spread awareness of the title and, apparently, make sure it sells gangbusters this Holiday season among the southeast and all of midwestern America. And, really, the addition of a NASCAR driver/occasional Maxim pin-up girl isn’t any less invasive among Sonic and his mascot pals than the head-scratchingly obscure Bonanza Bros.
No word on what her transforming vehicle will be, but if she doesn’t end up driving a variation of the stock car from Daytona USA then SEGA is disappointingly insane. (You know, rather than the fun kind of insane.)
The more grounded, positive news is that Joe Musashi from Shinobi has joined the roster, alongside newer racers like Vyse from Skies of Arcadia and more. With stages based off Panzer Dragoon and Golden Axe being shown prominently, this one shows even more promise than the original installment.
The title has also been officially revealed as coming to Wii U (in addition to the 360 and PS3), officially making it another missing entity from Nintendo’s presence yesterday that would have, at least, added one more name to their list of upcoming games that haven’t already been out for a year.
What do you think, JKPeers? Anybody geared up for this besides me?
