Alright. Let’s get serious.

With last week’s rough test recording in the can, this week’s show is back to fighting strength! Brandon, Tom, Josh, Zack and Harrison gather ’round the new studio setup to engage in lengthy, heated discussions about SoulCalibur V, DC’s newly-announced Before Watchmen prequels, a book review of Ready Player 1, unique experiences in Saints Row the Third, gamer reactions to “online passes” and much, much more.

Hit the jump for this week’s related videos & articles. Come on, it’ll be fun.

  3. JMS, IMO, is way overrated. He is a fantastic writer when he is on his game, but when he isn’t he is awful, and has deadline and completion issues. During your hiatus JMS got a little full of himself and a lot of creators tried to smack him back in line. I really liked Mark Waid’s:
‘Half an hour later, still fuming at JMS’s shitty passive-aggressiveness. I should probably go walk it off. Maybe with a long walk. A long, dull, pointless, boring walk. Across America. That I won’t finish.’

I was really worried it would be another showering of praise for Ready Player One when I saw you were “reviewing” it.

I’m glad you were able to see through the glorified fanfiction, mary sue bullshit that it was, Brandon. Sounds like you had the same exact experience with it that I did, I just kept waiting for it to get to “the good part” since so many people were going crazy for it. But it was just predicatable puzzles and predictable plot twists (Aech is…a gurl?!?)

    • I was willing to give the overwhelming, direct references a pass through those first two chapters, but upon reaching the initial scene in Aech’s basement hangout with the book’s first moments of expanded character dialogue and quickly realizing that he could not write conversational dialogue at ALL, I knew it was going to be a bad trip.

How anyone could praise this one is far beyond me.

Checked it out. Made the mistake(or is it) to listen while a work and could stop giggling.
Made a couple of dumb notes:

-There is a great app for the android market (waiting patiently for it to hit the iPhone apps) called instant buttons that has amazing triggers that would be awesome for you guys. We used it in 4 player coop and it made GoW3 hilarious.

-Love the comic stuff, Watchmen is a dangerouse but inevitable gamble DC was going to have to take. Its just really disheartening to hear that Alan Moore isn’t working on it. Green Lantern!

-Super Mario 3 land is totally a cop out. It’s basically a limp non multiplayer version of the Wii game.

-Big fan of the music breaks

-M knight didn’t do night at the museum 2 “electric boogaloo” although he did produce devil in name only, I remember because I went to see inception and it was part of the trailer and nobody could stop laughing when his name came up in it.

-SR3 and even 2 has an awesome character creator along with arguably the best open world coop on console if you got in on Xbox we should play sometime. The mancannon was part of the preorder pack and is slated to dlc release next month I believe.

-Basically the shadow is a young Alec Baldwin with a red scarf and fedora, the movie portrays the comic rather well in that light.

The problem with skyrim is mostly the same issues that Fallout 3 had, honestly most of Bethesda’s games usually have the same glitch issues which makes me wonder why none of these get adressed. The reason people buy them and love them so much is because they still find a way to enjoy themselves in a very buggy/broken game. The hunt for Marco Ono sounds like an awesome dlc idea.

This last bit is about the final thought you guys ended with. The whole season pass idea that EA has adopted is a good way for them to get some sort of residuals from the purchase of a used sale since they don’t get that usually. I personally think that’s fine but the way they go about it by removing online play is where I disagree. Games like MW3 and battlefield are mostly about the online play, so unless you by the game for the singleplayer (honestly who does for those games) your depreciating the value by adding another fee to the bill.

    Big fan, keep it up!

I absolutely love Chronicles of the Sword from Soulcalibur III. I’ll probably get number five anyways, but if they release Chronicles of the Sword as DLC, I’ll buy it in a heartbeat.

Dude SoulCalibur is totally blown my mind away! Lots of interesting characters are fighting with each other! I’m very excited to play this game on my PS3. Thanks for the video trailer. :)
