Hey! Listen! The Legend of Zelda is 25 years old!

Brandon, Josh, and Tom are joined by favored guest Harrison of Volpin Props for a detailed discussion about Link’s legacy of pot-smashing and chicken-kicking. How can Nintendo best celebrate a quarter-century of Zelda at E3 2011? Our listeners help us decide in this lengthy brainstorming session! Plus: some sad Sym-Bionic Titan news, an analysis of the Green Lantern footage from WonderCon, and more!

Show highlights:

0:01:45 – April Fools 2011: a Day in Review.

0:08:03 – Inafune is starting TWO new companies and Mega Man Universe is dead. Josh gets infinity boners.

0:09:54 – The 3DS is here! Like, in the room! With us! Let’s TALK about it, YEAH!

0:21:44 – Arnold’s getting his own animated series/movie/video game. About himself. As a superhero. Called The Governator. For real. Due in 2012. And the Mayans shout from the shadows of time itself: “We told you so.”

0:28:45 – Sym-Bionic Titan is cancelled. Everyone is sad.

0:37:38 – Harrison talks about his disappointment with Dragon Age 2.

0:53:24 – Listener emails! Yes, BEFORE the intermission! First up is Ricky, asking about the fate of Sym-Bionic Titan and, more importantly, Genndy Tartakovsky.

0:56:13 – Morris writes in to express his extreme offense at our apparent lack of enthusiasm for this summer’s Green Lantern movie. We explain ourselves.

1:16:45 – Intermission! brought to you by Malo Mart.

1:18:45 – Harrison’s elaborate, online April Fool’s Day gag was met with decidedly mixed reviews.

1:32:10 – And now, over and hour’s worth of Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary discussion! Ssssort of. After several false-starts, we dive into some E3 2011 Celebration suggestions from Tyler, Brittany, Jason, Nik, and Sarah!

  1. I guess my only problem with E3’s Nintendo booth having an “experience” is this is an Industry and Press only event (I just checked the site). I know a lot of press might love Zelda, but they may not spend the time needed to wait in line for a shirt when they’ve got 100 games to cover and stories to write in the middle of the whole event. Maybe if they had a History of Zelda with actual concept art/scribbles from the games.

That said, I think I’d also love a Mega64 video with Miyamoto and Iwata in the video being Link/Ganon and Rocco being Zelda.

Oh, that’s right. I’m sorry, Tom, we forgot about your allergy towards things that are fun and cool.

      • Well excuuuuuuuuse me, Princess…

      • Don’t get me wrong, I think the idea is fun. It’s more of a thing I would want to experience if I was there, not read about on some blog or listen to how awesome it was on some podcast.

        Also, Pig Ganon SUCKS.

        • If it pleases the jury:

          • The jury is not pleased!

Dr Teeth would take all comers and win single-handedly. He has the Triforce of Rock.

I don’t think I get it… none of them look alike.

    I’m very tempted to cut together a J. Geils/ LoZ mashup now…

    also this:

“This means that -- unless otherwise specified -- each new game represents a new Link and that there isn’t a true frame of reference or timeline possible for the series.”

    from: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/93128-Nintendo-Lays-To-Rest-Zelda-Timeline-Mystery

basically they reiterate what you guy’s have quoted before about each game being a different retelling of The Legend.

  4. note to self….never listen to this while working xD
    it sticks….that killed me xD

I agree with Sarah, mass hysteria would be hilarious.
